Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (Antara) - Five people on Palue island died after being swept away by hot lava flow from Mount Rokatenda in the district of Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara, early on Saturday. Head of the province's Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, Tini Thadeus, confirmed the deaths saying the five villagers were swept by hot lava flowing from Woje Wubi village to Cua coast. The Palue island is located off Maumere, the capital of Sikka district on the eastern island of Flores. Mount Rokatenda which is on the island was also recorded erupting on February 2 and 3 this year. More than 10,000 people live in eight villages on the island and some of the villages are threatened by the volcano's eruption. The volcano in the eruption on early Saturday also spewed volcanic ashes rising up to 1,500 to 2,000 meter high. (*)
