Jakarta, July 9 (Antara) - The House of Representatives (DPR) at its plenary session on Tuesday passed a bill on the prevention and eradication of forest destruction (P3H) into law.
Deputy House Speaker Pramono Anung, who led the meeting asked DPR members if they agreed on the passage of the bill into law.
"Agree...," the House members replied.
Pramono then banged the gavel as a mark of approval.
Before asking approval from the House members, chairman of the working committee for the bill Firman Subagyo who is also deputy chairman of the House Commission IV reported the last deliberation of the bill, while Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan delivered the final views of the government.
With the passage of the bill into law, forestry destruction and illegal logging could be minimized, Firman said.
"The bill concerns the effort to deal with perpetrators of forest destruction, both individuals and corporations, in order to protect indigenous people," he said.
The House Commission IV also expressed hope that the law would provide protection and benefit to the community.
The House plenary session also endorsed the outer space bill and farmer protection and empowerment bill into laws. (*)
