Padangpanjang, West Sumatra (Antara) - A tectonic quake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook Pesisir Selatan district in West Sumatra at around 9.25pm on Wednesday.
The epicenter of the quake was recorded in Kawasan 29, southwest of Pesisir Selatan, 28 kilometers deep, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
It had no potential to cause a tsunami but it was felt in the provincial capital city of Padang and its surrounding areas.
"The tremor was also felt in Padangpanjang," the agency's Padangpanjang chapter's analyst Buha Simanjuntak said.
A villager of Balai-Balai, Padangpanjang, Ahmad, said he was shocked by the quake and it had made his family to flee outside the house.
The quake had also made the villagers to flee their houses because they were still traumatized by the huge quake several years ago that destroyed the city.
"We are still traumatized by the quake six years ago," Rina, a resident of Balai-balai Kota Padangpanjang said. (*)
