Jayapura, Papua (Antara) - PT Freeport Indonesia' Big Gossan underground mining site where some 40 miners were trapped on Tuesday lacked of oxygen, according to Papua police. "We still conduct the search and rescue effort in the day and night to quickly discover the survors," said Chief of Mimika Resort Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Jeremias Rontini in an interview to Antara here on Wednesday. He said the Emergency Response Group (ERG) of PT Freeport Indonesia found four employees who were trapped in Big Gossan Tunnel at 06.30 am local time on Wednesday. "The ERG evacuation team having difficulty to conduct rescue effort as the accident site located in difficult terrain conditions," Rontini said. He added the terrain is narrow and landslide debris still frequently falls down. The ERG team also repairs wooden buffer to enhance gateway and to avoid fallen landslide debris. "Several survivors are currently being treated in Tembagapura Regional Public Hospital," Rontini said. Police predicted at least 41 employees of PT Freeport Indonesia who conducted training on working safety were buried underground. The company claimed that they have reported the incident to central government include Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. At least six employees include Yapinus Tabuni, Yoni, Edowai, Petrus, Mathius and David Gobai were discovered survived inside the debris on Tuesday. (*)
