Jakarta (Antara) - The Indonesian and Danish governments agreed to strengthen bilateral relations signing a memorandum of understanding here on Wednesday. Both sides agreed that opportunities are wide to expand bilateral cooperation in the economic, environment, security, education and other sectors, said Foreign Minister Marty Natalegara after signing the MOU with visiting Danish counterpart Villy Sovndal here. Marty said the two countries are studying the opportunities to develop cooperation for mutual benefits including in trade and economic development. In 2012, the bilateral trade was valued only at US$402 million in favor of Indonesia. Marty said infrastructure is a sector in which the two countries could expand cooperation, citing cooperation in the maritime infrastructure. Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, needs to develop more maritime infrastructure to help strengthen connectivity between the country's islands, he said. He said Denmark considers it important to expand relations with Indonesia, which has strategic position in this region. He said Denmark has a vision "Emerging Market Strategy for Indonesia". Meanwhile, Villy Sovndal hailed Indonesia for its role in maintaining regional stability, security, including in politics and economy. (*)
