Denpasar (Antara) - United State Consulate General's Spokesman in Surabaya Andrew Veveiros said that Indonesia and the US have significant cooperation and their trade have been getting better. "The countries in the ASEAN region, including Indonesia are healthy markets that prompt the United States to develop cooperation that can provide benefits for both parties," said Andrew Veveiros here on Thursday. A number of businessmen of the superpower country are interested to invest in Indonesia. They invested their capital in various fields in Surabaya, East Java, and their products are exported to US. "Of the many types of commodities which penetrated the export market, Indonesian batik is the most favorable commodity that attracted the public in US," he said. He said that there is friction emerging in the trade relations between the two countries and both agreed to seek the best solutions to it. Thus, trade cooperation between Indonesia and the US could be improved in the future. Data at Bali's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) showed that Bali exported various products, most of which went to the US that absorbed 22.24 percent, followed by Japan 16.14 percent, 6.96 percent to Australia, 6.93 percent to Singapore and 4.10 percent to Hong Kong. Five major commodities that penetrated the export markets included fish, shrimp, non knitted apparel products, jewelry products or gems, wood products and lighting home and stuff. While Bali imported a number of production equipment components from abroad worth 23.53 million US dollars during December 2012, an increase of 141.35 percent over the same month of the previous year which was only 9,75 million US dollars.(*)
