Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian students in the United States voiced support for President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to Washington this week, praising his performance and expressing optimism about Indonesia’s direction amid global uncertainty.
Jessica, a student from Surabaya studying at Georgetown University, said she was encouraged by what she described as positive developments under Prabowo’s administration.
She welcomed the president upon his arrival in Washington on Tuesday, Feb. 17, local time.
“In my opinion, things have been good so far. We’ve seen positive media coverage and various developments. The president’s performance has been satisfactory,” she said.
Jessica added that she was personally satisfied with Prabowo’s leadership, saying he appeared committed to steering Indonesia toward progress.
Alberto Sidiq, a Jakarta native studying at Johns Hopkins University, echoed that sentiment.
He said he was optimistic that Prabowo’s leadership could guide Indonesia toward a stronger future and urged fellow citizens to maintain confidence.
“We must be optimistic about the leadership we have entrusted. We always pray that he carries out his duties in line with the people’s expectations,” Alberto said.
Another Johns Hopkins student from Jakarta, Nugi, expressed support for Prabowo’s international engagement, including Indonesia’s involvement in efforts related to Palestinian peace initiatives.
“We will always support the president’s choices for our country,” he said, referring to Prabowo’s participation in the Gaza Board of Peace.
Prabowo arrived in Washington aboard Garuda Indonesia aircraft PK-GIF, which landed at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Tuesday.
During his visit, he is scheduled to meet U.S. business leaders on Wednesday, attend the inaugural summit of the Gaza Board of Peace on Thursday, Feb. 19, and hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump.
The agenda includes signing a reciprocal trade agreement, with negotiations ongoing since 2025.
Prabowo was accompanied on the flight from Jakarta by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
