The government is continuing to make efforts to increase labor productivity and competence as workers are an important resource for supporting national economic growth to achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 goal, Manpower Minister Yassierli has said.

"We want our workforce to have a substantial role in the nation's economic growth in the future. Improving labor competence is our core business process," he said at the "100 Ekonom Indonesia" economist gathering here on Tuesday.

Yassierli informed that to support the increase in labor productivity and competence, his side is strengthening curriculum and certification, including through vocational education, re-skilling, as well as up-skilling efforts.

"We will try to make it more efficient, more massive in the future, and focus on certain workforce, in line with the President's strategic mega projects," he said.

In addition, the government is focusing on expanding employment opportunities, improving welfare, and protecting the workforce, he added.

"What is important is competitiveness. This is our plan for 2025, that we will revive the movement to increase national productivity," Minister Yassierli said.

He explained that there is a presidential regulation related to the matter, which only needs to be implemented.

"We already have the presidential regulation, which we must execute starting from the central level to the regional level, including about labor norms and labor management reform," he said.

He added that the ministry will also focus on vocational and professional training to support the improvement of labor productivity and competence.

He also noted Vietnam's labor productivity growth of 7 percent compared to Indonesia's 2.6 percent. This is because Vietnam is focusing on vocational training, he said.

"We have got to focus on vocational and professional training," he stressed.
