Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and his Peruvian counterpart, Dina Boluarte, engaged in bilateral discussions on several issues ranging from a comprehensive economic partnership agreement to illicit drugs eradication.

"We will soon finalize the comprehensive economic partnership agreement," Prabowo stated after the meeting at the Peruvian Palace Palacio de Gobierno, Lima, Peru, on Thursday (November 14) local time.

He expressed hope that the agreement would be completed in the next six months and that the signing process would be carried out when President Boluarte and her delegation visited Indonesia.

The two heads of state also touched on the narcotics eradication issue and the importance of stability and peace in the Pacific region, considering the position of the two countries as part of the Pacific region.

Prabowo also affirmed that both parties agreed to conduct a cultural and economic meeting program, with an agreement to expand market access for Peruvian products to Indonesia.

"We have decided to open our market and provide access to Peruvian products, and we look forward to strong bilateral relations and the context of multilateral relations," he remarked.

The president affirmed that Indonesia will fully support Peru's participation in ASEAN.

Furthermore, Prabowo lauded Peru, which hosted the APEC Summit this year.

Prabowo conveyed his support for all initiatives that Peru took in the APEC, ASEAN, and other multilateral organizations.

"We will support all initiatives to succeed the APEC Summit and also Peru's involvement in ASEAN and other multilateral organizations," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Boluarte said the meeting aimed to deepen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Peru.

Boluarte emphasized how Peru and Indonesia share important characteristics as nations rich in biodiversity and home to diverse ethnic communities.

In 2023, Indonesia was the eighth-largest trading partner to Peru.

The meeting between Prabowo and Boluarte took place on Thursday local time while celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between both nations.

President Prabowo was welcomed with a state ceremony by President Boluarte upon his arrival at the Peruvian Palace Palacio de Gobierno, Lima, at 14:00 local time.
