Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, and his Thai counterpart, Maris Sangiampongsa, have agreed to strengthen cooperation between their nations at both regional and global levels through various international forums and organizations.

The two ministers held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 23–24.

According to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Sugiono and Sangiampongsa agreed to enhance regional and global cooperation through platforms such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The ministers also agreed to boost collaboration through the United Nations (UN), BRICS, and other international forums.

During their meeting, Sugiono highlighted the significance of Indonesia-Thailand strategic relations and encouraged deeper cooperation through various mechanisms.

On ASEAN matters, the two ministers exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar and agreed that a swift resolution is needed.

Sugiono stressed the importance of inclusive and collaborative efforts involving all parties in Myanmar and emphasized maintaining ASEAN solidarity and centrality amid dynamic geopolitical conditions.

Sangiampongsa expressed hope that Indonesia would continue playing a key role in the region.

The ministers also discussed the strategic role of BRICS as a forum for developing economies to contribute to global economic growth.

BRICS, established in 2010 by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, expanded in January with the addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

Indonesia and Thailand will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations next year.
