Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) departed for Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Tuesday, to meet with UAE President Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) to discuss efforts to intensify cooperation between both nations.

"On Tuesday, my entourage and I will pay a visit to Abu Dhabi, the UAE," Jokowi noted in a press statement at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Tuesday, ahead of his departure.

President Jokowi is scheduled to meet his UAE counterpart on July 17, 2024.

"At the meeting, we will discuss, among other things, various efforts to increase economic cooperation and strategic investment," he stated.

During the meeting, President Jokowi will also discuss the new capital city (IKN Nusantara) with President MBZ.

The two leaders will also witness the signing of a business memorandum of understanding between entrepreneurs from the two countries.

Jokowi stated that in the last decade, relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates have improved rapidly, especially in the economic and investment fields.

According to the president, the UAE is one of Indonesia's main partners and strategic partners in the Middle East and the first Middle Eastern country to have a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Indonesia.

"Our partnership is, among other things, focused on cooperation in the clean energy sector, such as solar energy cooperation in the Cirata Reservoir," he remarked.

The floating solar power plant in Cirata is the biggest one in Southeast Asia, with a capacity of 192 megawatt peak (MWp), operated under a partnership between the sub-holding of the state-owned electricity company PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) and a UAE renewable energy company.

Moreover, the president said that Indonesia's new government would continue to implement the established cooperation with the UAE.

Jokowi will return to Indonesia after meeting with President MBZ on July 17, 2024.
