State-run train manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) is collaborating with state-owned tourism company PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) to develop electric transportation modes for cultural tourism and heritage areas.

President Director of PT INKA Budi Noviantoro and Director of PT TWC Edy Setijono inked a cooperation agreement at the train manufacturer headquarters in Madiun City, East Java Province, on Sunday.

The signing of the cooperation agreement was witnessed by Second Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.

PT INKA president director has informed that tram movers and shuttle buses are the electric transportation  modes which will be developed first in the cooperation since they will be used at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) to support the implementation of 2022 G20 Summit.

"Tram mover is a new vehicle technology. I think the vehicle will be a new icon of TMII, thus it can attract more tourists," he stated.

On the occasion, the PT TWC  director said that in future, the collaboration will also develop electric vehicles for other tourism attractions and establish an integrated electric transportation system between a number of tourism destinations.

"It aims to develop renewable energy-based transportation modes that we can use in future," he continued.

It is planned that a test-drive will be conducted for the tram mover at TMII in April 2022. Hopefully, the vehicle can be fully operated in October 2022.

Furthermore, the SOEs second deputy minister said that he strongly supports the synergy between the companies.
