The Malang District Military Command 0818 hosted free mass vaccination to inoculate four thousand people in four sub-districts around their area of operation.

The four sub-districts targeted for vaccination are Bululawang, Karangploso, Lawang in Malang District, and Batu in Batu City. Each sub-district obtained a share of one thousand vaccines.

Commander of the Malang District Military Command 0818 Infantry Lieutenant Colonel Yusub Dody Sandra noted in a written statement received here on Saturday, that mass vaccination will be hosted regularly to stem the spread of COVID-19.

"Apart from mass vaccination, we also take several other steps to suppress the spread of COVID-19, including its effects, such by spraying disinfectants, allocating social aid, and conducting tracing for those who came in close contact with COVID-19 positive people," Sandra explained.

Sub-district Military Commander Infantry Captain Diding Tri Putranto from Bululawang Sub-district Military Command 0818/18 coordinated and supervised the mass vaccination program in Bululawang Sub-district.

Stringent health protocols were enforced during the mass vaccination event. The participants must maintain safe distance, wear mask, and wash hands.

Major ARH Joko Istianto from the Malang District Military Command 0818 noted that his side, along with four Sub-district Military Commands, had simultaneously hosted mass vaccination events in a day across the four sub-districts.

Sub-district Military Command 0818/02 has also conducted contact tracing in Temas Village, Batu Sub-district to control and suppress the spread of COVID-19.

Batu Sub-district Military Commander Captain Arm Kodir explained that the step was taken to identify the number of people contracting the disease after coming in contact with COVID-19 positive patients.

The virus can spread through droplets of saliva particles from coughing, sneezing, or talking, so close contact with infected people facilitates the spread.

Those who are close to the infected person have the potential of spreading the virus again when they are in a crowd. This is because (oftentimes) they do not realize that they are carrying the virus in their bodies," he pointed out. (*)
