Surabaya, E Java (Antaranews jatim) - The East Java Education Office explored education cooperation with South Korea after a meeting with Surabaya's senior high school principals and an education consultant from Gwangju Town, South Korea, Sejong in Surabaya, East Java, Monday.
Head of the East Java Provincial Education Bureau for Surabaya City Karyanto remarked here on Tuesday that the assessment for cooperation was based on the fact that in the era of globalization, students in Surabaya need to have a broader insight.
"Studying can be conducted anywhere. The quality of students in Surabaya will improve, and they will be better prepared to face the era of globalization by increasing their knowledge," he explained.
Furthermore, Prime Surabaya Director Rosaline Rachmaniah, who participated in the meeting, affirmed that the cooperation will be slightly different than usual.
"One of the offers from Gwangju is an opportunity for principals or teachers of East Java to gain an understanding of the educational system there. This year, the Gwangju local government provides an opportunity to 20 participants to study in South Korea, with the expenses being borne by the Gwangju government," she remarked.
Rachmaniah stated that the cooperation can be realized after principals of senior high schools in Surabaya witness first-hand the education process in Gwangju.
Meanwhile, Sejong Director Jed Kim revealed that they had selected Indonesia, specifically Surabaya City, based on a strong understanding gained after travelling to several countries, such as the Philippines and the United States.
"However, we realize that Indonesia is important to be considered. As one of the big countries in Asia, with Surabaya, as the largest city here, if students from both sides are able to cooperate together, then a better world can be realized," he remarked. (*)
