Brussels, (Antara) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla met with Vice President of the European Commission Andrus Ansip to discuss the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (IEU-CEPA) to strengthen cooperation between both sides.

The CEPA is expected to be finalized soon. This was revealed during the meeting between Kalla and Ansip at the European Commission office, First Secretary on Information, Social, and Culture Affairs of the Embassy of Indonesia Ance Maylany stated in London on Tuesday.

During the meeting of the IEU-CEPA, the vice president emphasized that CEPA is part of Indonesia's interests with the EU, especially in handling the issue related to palm oil that has prolonged for several years.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ansip, who handles the digital market portfolio, held intensive discussions on the digital single market in Europe and ways to jointly develop e-commerce and e-government.

After the meeting, the two vice presidents received a report from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) titled "Indonesia-EU Business Input Toward Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement" as a joint recommendation of both countries' business communities for the negotiating team, especially from the Indonesian side, to review the advantages and disadvantages of each sector to be discussed during the negotiations.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kalla said the meeting's result will be discussed to cater to Indonesia's interests in order to realize CEPA and to tackle the protracted problem faced in exporting palm oil, as the country is the largest exporter of the commodity, among others.

"They agreed to conduct a joint study in order to avoid discrimination and to resolve sustainability issues," the vice president remarked.

He noted that a joint seminar will be held immediately to serve as an example for other nations in Europe. Of course, other European countries will also agree to establish cooperation between the EU and Indonesia.

The meeting between entrepreneurs and the Chamber of Commerce will resume on Tuesday and later in January or February on CEPA, which will be the fourth round.

The concept of Indonesian Kadin and the EU had also been submitted.(*)
