Jakarta, (Antara) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla has reiterated the Indonesian government's commitment to the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

"As a country located in the Indian Ocean and an archipelago, Indonesia is committed to promoting the spirit of the ocean," Kalla stated here, Wednesday, during the opening ceremony of a ministerial-level conference of the IORA.

Kalla praised the delegates of the IORA member countries for participating in the second ministerial-level conference.

"I highly laud the voluntary commitment made by both the IORA members and dialog partners for their contribution to implementing blue economic financing, which is the core of this ministerial-level conference," Kalla stated.

At the national level, the Indonesian government has drafted a strategic plan on blue economic development by setting a target to reduce plastic waste in sea by 70 percent until 2030, among other things.

Indonesia's delegation at the IORA Conference comprises Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi, and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi.

The Second Ministerial Conference of the IORA on Blue Economy was held at the Pullman Hotel, here, on May 8-10, 2017.(*)
