Magetan, E Java (Antara) - A whirlwind ripped through three sub-districts in East Java's Magetan district on Saturday night, leaving hundreds of houses damaged.
Most of the houses were found in Magetan sub-district where the whirlwind caused trees to fall on houses and blew the roof off houses, spokesman for the Magetan district disaster mitigation board (BPBD)Anjar Kurniawan said on Sunday.
The whirlwind struck the sub-district when heavy rains fell on Magetan district on Saturday night.
He said the whirlwind hit four villages in Magetan sub-district, and one village in Sukomoro and Panekan sub-district each.
He called on the local residents to stay alert for high rainfall which may cause whirlwind, flood and landslide.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted many regions will still have high rainfall until April. (*)
