Jakarta, (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invites Indonesian people to preserve batik clothes as the typical Indonesian culture.
The President stated a congratulation to National Batik Day on his social media account on Sunday to commemorate the batik day that occurred at 2 October each year.
He emphasized that batik is one of the Indonesian ancestral cultures.
Jokowi also invites people to develop batik as an Indonesian culture that is well known to the world.
The batik clothes industry is one of Indonesian creative sector that can develop national economic, he said.
"Let us develop the batik culture as a creative industry that develop the national economy. Happy National Batik Day 2016 - Jkw," Jokowi said on his Twitter account.
Indonesia has appointed 2 October as the National Batik day.
The batik cloth was assigned by UNESCO as the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.(*)
