Surabaya (Antara Jatim) - The Surabaya city administration in East Java is optimistic that it can achieve the  regional revenue target of Rp200 billion from building construction permits this year.

Just in the first semester of 2016, the regional revenue from building construction permits has reached Rp130 billion, the acting chief of the Surabaya city office of public works  human settlements and spatial planning, Eri Cahyadi said here on Tuesday.

With the online licensing service launched in 2010, the city's revenues from building construction permits have increased since then, he said.

The target of revenues from building construction permits for the first year of the online licensing service was set at Rp120 billion, and was raised to Rp180 billion and further to Rp200 billion, he said.

"Hopefully, (the revenues) will increase this year and the following years," he said.

He attributed the revenue hike to the fact that residents would feel convenient if they hold building construction permits to build new houses.

With the online licensing service at the city office of public works' human settlements and spatial planning, residents have now found it easy to apply for building construction permits, he said.

"Before the online licensing service was introduced, the number of applicants for building construction permits was only 20 to 30 per day. The figure increased to 60 after the online licensing service was launched. In essence, the residents will feel convenient to apply for building construction permits if they do not have difficulties in doing so," he said.

He added however that the online licensing service is far from perfect as not all residents know it.

Not all residents have a knowledge of information technology, he said adding the online licensing system does not mean that the office no longer has direct contact with residents (*)
