Jakarta, (Antara) - Indonesia, through the General Election Commission (KPU), will be hosting the Asian Electoral Stakeholder Forum (AESF) from August 22 to 26, in Bali.

"The forum is aimed at promoting a qualified general election. The event will involve the general election organizing agencies and non-governmental organizations across Asia," the Chairman of the Indonesian Chairman of General Election Commission (KPU), Juri Ardiantoro, said here on Thursday.

The first AESF was held in Bangkok, Thailand on December 12, 2012 and resulted in the Bangkok Declaration on holding a free and fair general election.

The second forum was held in Dili, Timor Leste, and drew 120 delegations from 27 countries, including Australia, the United States, Angola, Cabo Verde, Portugal, and Mozambique.

The event resulted in a document called the "Dili Indicator on Democratic General Elections," which became the main guideline for assessing the credibility of an election.

The forum in Bali will be the third such event.

Juri said the forum will be based on the theme of "Transparency and Integrity for Quality Elections."

It is expected that each participating country will strengthen its efforts to develop fair elections and create solidarity with other countries.

"The goal of the forum is a commitment to creating transparency and integrity for a qualified election," Juri said.(*)
