Depok, Banten, (Antara)- Palestine is facing the problem of colonialism, which has led to a humanitarian crisis, Cholil Nafis, Middle East observer from the University of Indonesia, stated.

"Colonialism must be abolished from the world as it violates human rights," Nafis noted here on Thursday while commenting on the upcoming Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to be held in Jakarta on March 6-7.

Thus, the role being played by Indonesia in solving the Palestinian problem is in accordance with the implementation of the country's Constitution (UUD), he emphasized.

Indonesia should play a positive role in solving the Palestinian issue by setting the country's historical record straight and by restoring the rights of the Palestinian people, he remarked.

"This is also to uphold the promise made by the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla administration during their general election campaign period in the past, which is to help find a solution to the Palestinian conflict," he pointed out.

Due to the occupation, Palestinians have lost their national identity, he affirmed.

Indonesia should encourage the world to restore peace, he added.(*)
