Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - Airlangga University (Unair) in Surabaya, East Java, in association with the Indonesian military (TNI) held a main armament system exhibition on Saturday and Sunday.

        "We are displaying the newest main armament system of the TNI with the aim of publishing the development of its main armament system. This exhibition is aimed to forge close cooperation between the Brawijaya Regional Military Command V and Unair as well as to mark the latter's anniversary,"  deputy dean III of the university's science and technology faculty, Hery Purnabasuki who is also chief of the event's organizing committee said on Saturday.

        For the first time ever,  Unair displayed TNI's collection of various tanks including AMX, Amphibian, Mader, Scorpion and Leopard tanks, he said.

        Meanwhile, Unair Rector Prof Dr Moh Nasih MT Ak called for close cooperation between Unair and TNI. "We want cooperation between Unair and TNI to become increasingly closer. For instance, we produce virus for defense which can be used for TNI soldiers or instruments which may be useful for state defense," he said.    

   The two-day exhibition held to mark the 70th anniversary of Indonesia's independence displayed a Leopard 2A4 Tank, a Marder Tank, a Scorpion Canon 90 Tank, a Stormer Tank, an Anoa Armored Vehicle, a Panhard Armored Vehicle, a Tarantula Armored Vehicle and a wide range of combat weapons.
