Surabaya (Antara Jatim) - The incumbent mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini, and her running mate, Whisnu Sakti, began undergoing medical checkups at Dr. Sutomo General Hospital here on Tuesday.

This is part of the requirements to seek reelection in the polls scheduled to be held in December.

The results of the two-day comprehensive medical checkups, which cover physical and psychological aspects, will be handed over to the local election commission (KPU) before August 1, the acting director of the hospital, Harsono, said here on Tuesday.

"It is not the hospital that will decide whether they can contest in the mayoral election. We only provide the results of the medical checkups. It is the KPU that has the authority to make all decisions," he stated at the hospital.
The team of doctors from the hospital assigned to conduct the medical checkups comprises several specialists, including an internist, a psychiatrist, neurologist, optometrist and tropical infection specialist, Harsono affirmed.

"All specialists were assigned to conduct the medical checkups," he added.

Risma, as the incumbent mayor of Surabaya is popularly known, arrived at the hospital at 7:30 a.m., half an hour earlier than scheduled.

Clad in a red batik shirt and black trousers, she headed straight to the second floor of the hospital to change into a white, long-sleeved T-shirt before undergoing the medical checkups.

Sakti, her running mate, arrived at the hospital 10 minutes later.

Moreover, all journalists were denied entry to the second floor of the hospital where Risma and Sakti were undergoing their medical checkups. (*)
