Surabaya, E Java (Antara Jatim) - Incumbent Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini has been touted as the strongest candidate in the December 2015 election based on the internal survey conducted by the Democrat Party.
"Madame Risma is still the best among the candidates," chief of the Democrat Party Provincial Executive Board in East Java Soekarwo said on Monday.
But he refused to divulge the votes gained by Rismaharini and the names of candidates who came second, third, etc. in the survey.
"Let us not mention the votes first. To be sure, Madame Risma is still the best among the candidates," he said.
Soekarwo did not rule out the possibility of the Democrat party coalescing with other parties, including the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) to nominate Rismaharini for the second term of office in the simultaneous regional head elections scheduled for December 8.
After all, he added the Democrat Party has not taken a stance on whether it will nominate a candidate in the election.
"In the elections there will be two interests for candidate, to win the election and to develop the party in the 2019 elections. If the two interests are not found, we will find a third alternative. We are still trying to find its form," he said.
In politics, taking no decision or having no opinion is part of decision, he said.
"If any of party cadre is to run for the mayoralty but the candidacy does not benefit the party, this will not belong to the interest number two," he said. (*)
