Surabaya, E.Java (Antara) - Teams from Malaysia and Poland are participating in Indonesia Chem-E-Car Competition, a chemical-fueled car competition, from April 23 to 26 in Surabaya, East Java province, event organizer Yudhiantono said here Friday. "The competition includes a scientific poster presentation and a car race. The winners of the events will be announced," he added. According to Yudhiantono, Indonesia Chem-E-Car Competition is the largest chemical-fueled car event in South Asia. "This year, nineteen teams are participating in the event: 16 from Indonesia, two from Malaysia, and one from Poland," Yudhiantono stated. Some 32 teams had applied to compete in Indonesia Chem-E-Car Competition 2015, but only 19 teams met all the requirements. Colombia was one of the teams that did not pass the selection phase. "The nineteen participating teams are from Lodz University, Poland, and Mara University, Malaysia," Yudhiantono noted, adding that the Indonesian teams are from the Bandung Institute of Technology, University of Indonesia, Surabaya Institute of Technology, Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Polytechnic, Pembangunan National University. In the 2014 Indonesia Chem-E-Car Competition, Mara University had won the first prize, while the Surabaya Institute of Technology had bagged the second and third prizes. "Last year, the Malaysian team had used hydrogen peroxide and potassium iodide for fuel and had made a perfect score," Yudhiantono remarked. This year, apart from evaluating scientific posters, the distance and load capacity of cars will also be evaluated. "There will also be a prize for the best eco-car," he added. The main objective of Indonesia Chem-E-Car Competition is not just to evaluate cars but also to encourage innovations in futuristic car models running on alternative fuels. "We hope the prototypes of cars participating in this competition can actually be developed," Yudhiantono added. (*)
