Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The Surabaya city government is teaming up with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to probe alleged irregularities in the construction of New Turi Market.
Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini confirmed here on Monday that the city government had reached an understanding with the KPK, following which it had asked the secretary of the city government, Hendro Gunawan, to send dossiers regarding implementation of the project to the anti-graft body.
"The secretary of the city government has sent the dossiers (to the KPK). The KPK has monitored several aspects, including the possibility of the investor collecting levies from traders," she said.
Regarding the cooperation agreement with the investors, she said the city government would insist on taking over the project if the investors failed to meet the October 14, 2014 deadline set for the project to be completed.
In this regard, the city administration had prepared data from reports of the State Comptroller (BPKP) pending legal opinion from the public prosecutor's office (LO), she said.
"So far, the KPK has been monitoring the process. Since this was actually very complicated, we also asked it to help in the process," she said.
The city government plans to take over the Turi Market from the investors on October 14, 2014 in accordance with the cooperation agreement. (*) Reported by Abdul Hakim
