Jakarta 6 (Antara) - Indonesia's presidential election campaign has ended following the final presidential debate on Saturday evening.
"Today is the final day of all campaign activities. Starting tomorrow July 6 until July 8 no campaign activity is allowed," General Election Commission (KPU) chief commissioner Husni Kamil Malik said when opening the presidential debate.
He also called on the people to set an example for other nations with regard to the implementation of the democracy event.
"We must be able to become a role model for other nations in the implementation of democracy especially the general election," he said.
He said he hoped people later would accept whatever the result of the election would be as whoever would be elected he would be the leader of Indonesia.
"After the election the presidential and vice presidential candidates that win would be our national leader, the leader of us all and not only one camp. The ultimate winner is the people of Indonesia," he said.
"We hope the campaign teams starting tonight would remind all people to exercise restraint and maintain orderliness. We hope Indonesia would be able to become a role model with its election for other nations," he said.
KPU commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah meanwhile said he hoped people would use the cooling-down period from July 6-8 for confirming their choices. (*)
