Jakarta, July 4 (Antara) - National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief General Moeldoko has reiterated that the military will remain neutral, firm, and professional in securing the July 9 presidential election.
"We will perform our duties to secure the election. We are neutral in political and practical terms," General Moeldoko said in a discussion "the freedom of the press in relation to the presidential election" at the Press Council building here on Friday.
The TNI will take action on whoever is wrong, regardless of who they are, he said.
"If they are wrong, they must be dealt with. We are firm in the belief that our soldiers have high morale. The military chief is responsible for their actions," he affirmed.
Professional means that the military must secure the presidential election in a measurable and well-planned manner, he said.
"We have to assist the police, election watchdog, and other supervisory committees in reducing vote rigging," he said.
He noted the situation ahead of the July 9 presidential poll in which the two camps of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs attacked each other.
"We are trying to minimize mutual distrust, mutual attack, and other actions that are flourishing. If these are not curbed, they will give rise to a less conducive situation. In anticipation, we in coordination with the national police chief have prepared for every situation," he added. (*)
