Palembang, South Sumatra (Antara) - Presidential candidate Joko Widodo has expressed concern over the clash between his supporters and supporters of his rival Prabowo Subianto in Yogyakarta on Tuesday. Although no one died or had been hurt in the incident Joko Widodo or Jokowi as he is also called reminded his supporters and all community members of the need to avoid anarchism. The clash between members of Jokowi's Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) and the United Development Party (PPP) that supports Prabowo occurred at Ngampilan neighborhood at around 3pm. "My message is that people must treat the presidential election as a joyful event. They must not make political campaign a scary event," he said on the way from Palembang to Jambi for a campign on Tuesday night. Jokowi called on his supporters to become a political education agent for the people. "That (the incident) disrupts peace. Educate our people using intellectual, smart and joyful methods. I have always advised my cadres and volunteers to be civil because violence is not our culture," he said. To security agencies Jokowi meanwhile appealed to act firmly against any anarchic acts that could disrupt peace as well as acts relating to issues of "SARA" (religious, ethnic, racial, and group differences). Jokowi, who is Jakarta governor, and former vice president Jusuf Kalla as his running mate, would meet former military figure Prabowo Subianto who pairs with former economic minister Hatta Rajasa in the election scheduled on July 9.
