Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (Antara) - The majority of people in Southeast Sulawesi warmly welcomed the nomination by Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) of Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as its presidential candidate in the upcoming elections. Provincial Legislative Assembly (DPRD) former member Yamin Indas opined that PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri has made a right decision to nominate Jokowi to run for president in the upcoming presidential election on July 9, 2014. "The people in Southeast Sulawesi have long waited for such a decision by Megawati because they yearn for a leader like Jokowi who is willing to explore remote villages to share the suffering of the villagers," Yamin said here on Tuesday. According to him, Indonesia is in need of a leader who is simple, honest, humble, and willing to heed people's aspiration as has been shown so far by Jokowi. Another Southeast Sulawesi community figure, Syamsuddin, also shared Yamin's opinion and said Indonesians are actually eager to have a leader like Jokowi. "Never before have we seen a governor like Jokowi who went down into a water channel which was clogged with rubbish when Jakarta was hit by a massive flood," Syamsuddin noted. He said that as the governor of Jakarta, Jokowi had shown all that he could do for the benefit of the people at large, and that, the leader like him was what the people of Indonesia really wanted.
