Jakarta (Antara) - A total of 34 provincial governors and vice provincial governors, until Friday, have applied for leave to take part in political campaigns for legislative elections on April 9, 2014 Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi stated. "Thirty-four have, until today, applied for leave, consisting of 23 provincial governors and 11 deputy governors. I have approved a number of them today," the minister noted here on Friday. The minister explained that government operations will not be disturbed even though more than half the governors in the country were taking leave for the political campaigns. "It will not affect the government's performance because they take only a two-day leave. Moreover, to my mind, it is just fine because such a campaign is held once in five years only," the minister pointed out. Minister Gamawan Fauzi has appealed to heads and deputy heads of regional governments not to take leave on the same days to assure of smooth government operations. "If the heads of regional governments take leave, then their deputies can take over their duties and so the position will not be vacant," he pointed out. State officials are allowed to take a maximum of two days a week and they are required to submit their applications, 12 days prior to their campaign schedules, he elaborated. He also warned the officials against using public facilities for their activities or use by their political parties or groups.
