Jakarta (Antara) - Jakarta Metropolitan police have uncovered 6.5 kilogram of methamphetamine worth Rp13 billion smuggled from China and arrested seven suspects including two Taiwanese in connection with it. "Initially we arrested SYM while leaving the Soekarno-Hatta airport on January 4, 2014," the director of narcotic crime intelligence of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command, Senior Commissioner Nugroho Aji said here on Thursday. SYM smuggled one ounce of meth kept in his shoes from China through Malaysia, Aceh and Jakarta aboard Garuda flight FA 147. Based on his confession the police later arrested two Taiwanese nationals namely HNY at Hayan Wuruk Apartment in West Jakarta and LYA at an apartment on Jalan Gajah Mada West Java on February 8. From them respectively the police confiscated 50 grams and five grams of meth. Following further investigation the police then arrested GGL at Aston Apartment in Marina, Ancol, North Jakarta and YDR on Jalan Thamrin, Central Java, on February 10, 2014. Nugroho said the suspects had successfully smuggled in 6.5 kilograms of meth by hiding the illegal drug in bodypacks pasted around his body through Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta international airport. After arresting GGL and YDR the police later arrested HRT on Jalan Cilik Riwut on February 17. Nugroho said the suspects have already distributed the stuff to Surabaya in East Java and Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan. On February 18 the police then arrested ADE who with a gun escorted the smuggling operation. "We have confiscated a Walter gun with five rubber bullets from him," Nugroho said. (*)
