Semarang, C Java (Antara) - Indonesia's men's single player Tommy Sugiarto will meet Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia in the final round of the Maybank Malaysia Open badminton championship on Sunday. Tommy competed in the final round after defeating Japan's Kenichi Tago 21-13, 21-18 in the semifinal round on Saturday, while Lee Chong Wei defeated Jan O Jorgense from Denmark 21-13 in the first set before the Danish player resigned when the score reached 3-0. Tommy looked for his first victory over Chong Wei on Sunday, after repeatedly losing to Wei in their past eight meetings, the last occurring at the final round of the BWF Super Series 2013 (10-21, 12-21). "It has been a long journey to the final round, moreover in tournaments like super series. I will play all-out on Sunday. Everybody has known that Chong Wei is the best player in the world right now. He is also more experienced than me," Tommy said, as quoted on the PB PBSI (Indonesia Badminton Association) website. "Although I have never won, I would not stop trying to perform maximally. I hope, in the final round tomorrow, I could have my first victory over him." he said. The son of Indonesia's 2013 world champion Icuk Sugiarto, Tommy is the only player to compete in the final round of the championship, after his fellow-players were stopped at the quarterfinals. The country's best mixed double players, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, had also been beaten by Xu Chen-Ma Jin 14-21, 13-21 from China. Indonesia's men's doubles Angga Pratama-Aryna Agung Saputra also suffered a defeat from Goh B Shem-Lim Khim Wah from Malaysia 23-25, 13-21, 20-22. "We have fought hard. Unfortunately, ahead of the end of the game we were not safe and made a lot of errors. The Malaysian players' pressure was indeed good, but we made unnecessary errors," Angga said. "Our target is winning the championship, but God has only allowed us to reach this level. So we must be grateful," he said. (*)
