Bekasi, W Java (Antara) - The Bekasi Chapter of the Federation of Indonesia Metal Worker Unions (FSPMI) has denied that a worker died in Bekasi, West Java, following a clash during the nationwide strike. "Indeed, I received a report that a worker in Bekasi had died during a clash at the East Jakarta Industrial Park (EJIP) area during the national strike on October 31," Bekasi FSPMI chapter spokesman Nyumarno said in Cikarang, West Java, on Saturday. But, he said, after checking the reports on the ground he found that it was not true. Nyumarno, however, confirmed that 17 workers had been seriously injured in clashes, while 11 others had been less seriously injured. "The 17 workers are now being treated at the Hosana Medical Hospital in Cikarang," he said. He noted that two of the victims suffered stab wounds, while five others suffered serious slashes from knives, and one striking worker had his hand broken.
