Semarang, Central Java (Antara) - A woman lawmaker of the Commission III of the House of Representatives called on Indonesian youths to take the oath to join the fight against corruption in the country. Eva Kusuma Sundari first asked the youths not to let themselves being corrupted before seeking to stamp out corruption from the country. Eva quoted the country's founding father Bung Karno as saying," The enemies of the youths do not come from outside but they are within the nation itself." Corrupt leaders of the nation had robbed the youths of their rights of resources and opportunities, the secretary of the Woman Department of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) said on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of Youth Pledge Day. Corruption has destroyed civilization leaving the natural rich country to rot with nothing left to be bequeathed for the future's generations, she said. Corruption and corrupt minds could bring about disaster to the youths, she added. "However, together, the youths could avert the disaster by revitalizing the Indonesian nationalism spirit," she said. The youth should first be firm in self denial by not allowing themselves to be corrupted, she said, adding the youths should not lose hope and become submissive. Submissiveness will drive the country deeper into the dark pit of corruption, she said. "The fighting spirit needs to be revitalized to prevent our country being treated as a nation of coolies," she said. She said the youths should put an end to the fact that every year hundreds of trillions of rupiahs were stolen by corrupt people in the forestry . Similarly the country suffers a potential loss of up to Rp50 trillion a year in sea natural wealth , she added. "Therefore, the Indonesian youths should declare a jihad against Mafia in the education, mining and various other sectors," she said. (*)
