Cilacap, Central Java (Antara) - The Immigration office in Central Java provincial district of Cilacap has moved 49 immigrants hailing from Middle East to the Immigration Detention Houses (Rudenim) in Tanjungpinang and Medan. The immigrants were taken by three buses to the Soekarno-Hatta International airport in Cengkareng, Banten province for their departure to Tanjung Pinang in Riau Islands and Medan in North Sumatra on Thursday, head of Cilacap Immigration office, Syamsul Bahri said. "They will be accommodated at two separated detention houses namely in Tanjung Pinang and Medan in accordance with the Immigration Directorate General's instruction," he said. According to him, 10 immigrants consisting of 3 from Pakistan and 7 from Irak will be placed in Tanjungpinang detention houses. Meanwhile, 22 immigrants from Palestine, 2 from Afghanistan, 6 from Syria and 9 from Iran will be placed in Medan, he noted. "The immigrants will later be organized by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)," he said. Last month, tens of illegal immigrants from the Middle East, not Sri Lanka as has been reported earlier, stranded in Kebumen, Central Java, were taken to the immigration office in Cilacap. A total of 99 illegal immigrants from Iran, Iraq and Palestine including women and children were evacuated by local agents of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to the immigration office in Cilacap, Central Java. The immigrants were stranded in the Karangduwur waters in the district of Kebumen after their boat was damaged while believably on its way to Australia. (*)
