Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to attend the Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) 2026, set to be held in Bali this June.

This was conveyed by the president during a joint press conference with Albanese following the two leaders' meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday.

"In closing, I invite Prime Minister Albanese to attend the Ocean Impact Summit in Bali this June," he said.

Prabowo expressed his hope that the Prime Minister's presence would help ensure the summit achieves tangible results and further bolsters maritime cooperation between Indonesia and Australia.

He underscored that maritime issues are a shared interest for all nations, especially for Indonesia and Australia, given their positions and vast maritime territories.

"We understand that the ocean is a shared interest for all countries, especially for our two nations," Prabowo said.

The OIS 2026 is a high-level international forum scheduled to take place in Bali on June 8–9.

The conference aims to strengthen global collaboration in addressing maritime challenges through a blue economy approach, sustainable policies, and impactful investment.

Through the event, Indonesia hopes to attract global investment into the country's maritime and fisheries sectors.

Earlier, the Head of the Multilateral Cooperation Team at the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Desri Yanti, stated that OIS 2026 will be held with the support of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

According to her, Indonesia aims to use this momentum to shift the maritime narrative from being solely about conservation toward utilizing marine resources as an engine for economic growth.

She added that the summit is expected to strengthen Indonesia's leadership in the global marine and fisheries sectors.

The OIS 2026 is targeted to produce tangible deliverables, including investment commitments, private sector partnerships, and financing initiatives for the blue economy and the future development of the marine and fisheries sectors.
