Pelindo to Build Industrial Estate Integrated with Port

Jakarta (Antara) - State-owned port operator PT Pelindo III said it will build an industrial estate integrated with its port in Gresik, East Java.
The project named Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) will be built over a 2,500 hectare plot of land .
Construction of the project will be made in three phases to keep pace with the growing demand for spaces in industrial estate in Gresik, Pelindo III President Director Djarwo Surjanto said here on Friday.
In the first phase, construction of the project which will be located over a 700 hectare plot of land at Manyar, will start this month, to be completed in a year, Djarwo said.
The first phase of construction will cost around Rp4 trillion, including for infrastructure such as quay , water supply installations, power supply system and other supporting facility, he added.
There are already companies placing order for spaces in the industrial estate including crude palm oil and automotive companies, he said.
The second phase will follow to build a new port over a 300 hectare plot of land bordering on the industrial estate.
The port will facilitate shipments of goods for the companies in the industrial estate such as for exports.
"Development of the port in Gresik could be a solution to congestion at Tanjung Perak port of Surabaya, and the Teluk Lamong Terminal," Djarwo said.
The system is expected to improve efficiency reducing cost of logistics , he added.
In the next phases residential area would be built over a 500 hectare plot of land.
Construction of the residential area will follow the expansion of the industrial estate which will need housing for growing number of workers, he said.
Construction of the residential area will be carried out in cooperation with PT AKR Land in a location separate from the industrial estate and the port areas. (*)
