Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed admiration for the late General Park Chung Hee, South Korea’s third president, whom he credited for steering the country’s industrialization and economic growth during his 16 years in power.
“One of my role models is General Park Chung Hee, the South Korean president who led his country into industrialization,” Prabowo remarked during the inauguration of Southeast Asia’s largest petrochemical factory, operated by South Korea’s Lotte Chemical Indonesia, in Cilegon, Banten, on Thursday.
The president lauded Park as a clean and credible leader with integrity, who successfully transformed South Korea’s work culture and strengthened national discipline. He noted that Indonesia should learn from Park’s leadership in fostering efficiency and good governance.
Prabowo also conveyed his aspiration to leave a similar legacy by building a government that is clean, transparent, and corruption-free, setting an example for future generations of Indonesian leaders.
In this regard, the head of state commended his aides in the Red and White Cabinet, saying they share his commitment to promoting integrity in governance.
“I would like to thank my aides for their good performance and commitment to setting an example for the next generation of a clean and corruption-free government, which is crucial for advancing development initiatives,” he stated.
Prabowo further emphasized that good governance is key to attracting investment and strengthening global confidence in Indonesia’s economy.
He cited as an example Lotte’s decision to invest Rp65 trillion (around US$4 billion) in the new petrochemical plant, describing it as proof of international trust in the nation’s stability.
“Lotte is probably one of the world’s largest corporations,” he noted, adding that the factory’s inauguration marks a source of pride for the Indonesian nation.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s commitment to welcoming greater foreign investment.
