Bandung, West Java - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said technology and innovation were two important factors to assure food security and sufficiency for the people. In view of that "think about technology contribution to and innovation for food self-sufficiency," he said at at the 17th National Technology Day here on Thursday. He said food security and self-sufficiency were very important for Indonesia in view of its huge population. Climate change, price fluctuations and policy changes in food producing countries meanwhile could affect stability of the world supply, he said. In view of that he said Indonesia must be able to be self-sufficient in food despite existing international trade and cooperation in the field. The commemoration was marked by presentation of technology awards to provinces, institutions, women researchers, technology ambassadors and community members. (*)
