Jakarta - Deputy Finance Minister Anny Ratnawati was questioned on Thursday by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as part of the process of investigation by the agency of the high profile graft case of Hambalang. "Anny Ratnawati came to the KPK to be questioned in her capacity as former budget director general of the ministry in connection with the Hambalang case," says KPK spokesman Johan Budi here on Thursday. Anny Ratnawati was the budget director general in the period of 8 July 2008 - May 2010 when alleged corruption took place in the Hambalang sport center project. The project was first planned in 2003 when it was still under the sport directorate general of the education ministry . In 2004-2009 , the project was taken over by the office of the sports and youth affairs minister which later started construction after securing the necessary documents including land certificate, carrying out geological study and preparing the master plan. In 2010, the project budget was raised to Rp1.75 trillion with fund to be provided by the finance ministry by phases over a number of years. Alleged corruption in Hambalang surfaced for the first time when M. Nazaruddin, former treasurer of the ruling Democratic Party was facing his corruption case involving Athlete House project in Palembang. Nazaruddin said Anas Urbaningrum, the general chairman of the party was behind the Hambalang corruption. (*)
