The National Alms Agency (Baznas) of Indonesia has initiated the Fundraising Development Program as an effort to augment the quality and professionalism of Indonesian collectors of zakat, or Islamic alms.

"This program is instrumental in enhancing the quality of the zakat collectors of Baznas going forward," Baznas Head Noor Achmad noted in the agency's statement cited in Jakarta on Saturday.

He spoke highly of zakat collectors, saying that they are mandated to ensure that the Islamic philanthropic fund is raised and managed in a professional, transparent, and trusted manner.

"On that note, fundraising efforts in the future will likely demand collectors to wield not only intellectual abilities but also adequate skills," he pointed out.

Achmad further remarked that the program was designed as a means to build the alms collectors' understanding of the proper ways to raise and manage zakat, ensuring that the fund is beneficial to those in need.

"Our hope is for Baznas to be able to not only collect more donations but also strengthen its institutional capacity while broadening its network," he stated.

The Baznas leader also urged participants of the fundraising program to make the most of every activity they undergo to augment their capacity to the fullest.

The Fundraising Development Program, being held from December 2024 to February 2025, is drawing participation from alms collectors serving at the central office of Baznas and those coming from provincial, district, and municipal branches of the agency.

Under the program, the participants will be provided with a range of lessons, including those related to national zakat management policies, basic information on the collection of Islamic philanthropic funds, communication strategies, and digital fundraising.
