President Prabowo Subianto, at the G20 Summit in Brazil, affirmed Indonesia's commitment to tackling hunger and poverty by making these two issues a national priority.
The president made the statement during the first session of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday (November 18) local time.
"We have the fourth-largest population (in the world), so hunger and poverty are real common issues," the president said, as quoted from a press release of the Presidential Secretariat here on Tuesday.
President Prabowo explained that his administration has made the fight against hunger and poverty a national priority. Moreover, his government has allocated a large budget for education.

"I believe education will bring us out of poverty. The free meal program for students is also part of our strategy to ensure that the younger generation gets the benefits of education," he remarked.
The head of state also conveyed a concrete plan to achieve food and energy security in Indonesia. Prabowo is optimistic that his government can overcome hunger problems in the next three years.
"We will achieve energy self-sufficiency in four years, and in five years, we are confident that we can contribute to the Global Alliance Against Poverty and Hunger," he pointed out.
In addition to food and energy issues, Prabowo emphasized that global economic problems cannot be separated from geopolitical dynamics.
The president called for a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza and encouraged G20 member countries to strengthen multilateral collaboration in facing global challenges.
"We urge an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and Gaza. Only with peace and stability can we overcome poverty and hunger," Prabowo noted.
