Jakarta (Antaranews Jatim) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the people to cooperate with security agencies in fighting terrorism.
"We must be aware that terrorism still exists in our country. Therefore, I ask the entire community to cooperate with security agencies to solve the problem," President Jokowi was quoted as saying by the presidential secretariat's deputy for protocol, press and media affairs, Bey Machmudin, in a statement released on Sunday.
The president was responding to the shooting of three suspected terrorists in Kaliurang, Sleman district, Yogyakarta special province, the day before.
The government had made every effort to deal with terrorism through soft and hard approaches, he said after inaugurating the Solo-Ngawi toll road at Ngemplak toll gate in Boyolali district, Central Java, on Sunday.
"I think the government has made soft and hard approaches. But once again it (terrorism) poses a threat that law enforcement agencies must deal with properly," he said.
Despite the shooting of the suspected terrorists in Kaliurang, the president insisted on visiting Yogyakarta to attend an event as planned earlier.
Bey Machmudin said the incident would not disrupt the president's visit Yogyakarta.(*)
