Jakarta (Antaranews Jatim) - Preparations for the 2018 International Monetary Fund-World Bank Group (IMF-WBG) annual meetings have reached 77 percent completion by the end of May, Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan stated.

The meetings will take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, on October 12-14, 2018.

"All tasks included on our checklist have run well," Pandjaitan noted at a press conference after a coordination meeting with the national organizing committee of IMF-WBG in Jakarta on Monday.

The preparations being discussed include security, transportation, immigration, customs, health, and tourism.

By the end of July, preparations for the IMF-WBG annual meetings are targeted to reach 85 percent completion, while the rest is expected to be completed by September 2018.

Preparatory discussion at the technical level between the national committee and the meeting team secretariat will be held from July 23 to August 4, 2018, in Bali.

Pandjaitan expressed hope the IMF-WBG annual meetings will be able to produce a strategic output regarding the state of the global economy amid the rising trade tensions between the United States and China.

On the same occasion, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated that the meeting is being held to face major changes in the global economic situation in the second quarter of 2018.

These changes occur in the context of interstate trade policies, normalization of the US policy, and political developments in Europe.

"This will all illustrate some of the risks that may emerge from the global economic outlook, so this annual meeting will be important to discuss current conditions and the challenges of how the 188 countries will work together to keep the global economy conducive for development," he added.(*)
