Probolinggo, East Java, (Antara) - Thousands of foreign tourists have visited Bromo Crater, part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in Probolinggo, East Java.

"Since January until early July 2017, some 8,131 foreign tourists have visited Bromo," Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park's Public Relation Ponco S noted in Probolinggo on Monday.

Thousands of foreign tourists entered the Bromo Crater through four entry gates -- Cemoro Lawang, Wonokitri, Tumpang, and Ranupani -- located in the area of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.

"According to data, the tourists mostly entered through Cemoro Lawang in Ngadisari Village, Sukapura Sub-district, Probolinggo, to visit Bromo," he stated.

He noted that apart from overseas holidaymakers, Bromo Crater, as one of the main destinations in East Java, also attracts hundreds of thousands of domestic tourists from across Indonesia.

"As many as 261,396 domestic tourists visited Bromo since January until July 2 through the four entrances: Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Malang, and Lumajang," he said.

He expressed hope that the number of foreign tourists would increase each year, as amenities are being improved in the park.

Meanwhile, Probolinggo Youth, Sports, Tourism and Cultural Office Head M. Sidik Wijarnako remarked that the municipal government is cooperating with several elements to organize various events on Bromo Mountain to increase the number of visitors.

"This year, two national events -- Jazz Bromo and Bromo Exotica -- will be held in Bromo and will hopefully help to increase the number of visitors," he said.

He expressed hope that domestic and foreign tourists would stay longer in Bromo to witness the events, which would improve the livelihood of the Tengger people and the community residing in the Bromo area.(*)
