Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The French Embassy in Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding with three universities in Surabaya, the capital of East Java, to establish cooperation in the field of education.
The agreements were signed by the embassy's Counselor for Cooperation and Culture Marc Piton and the representatives from Narotama University, Institut Teknologi 10 November, and Airlangga University at the office of Institut Francais Indonesia here on Friday.
French Ambassador to Indonesia Jean-Charles Berthonnet was also present to witness the signing event.
According to Piton, the cooperation is expected to encourage more Indonesian students, especially from East Java, to study in France, considering the various facilities and access that will be provided.
"We will also provide such means of convenience for students or lecturers who are keen to conduct research in France," he said.
ector of Narotama University Iswachyu Dhaniarti expressed hope that the cooperation would be able to encourage her students to have similar competencies as their European colleagues.
"We are currently running a joint research with one of the universities in France, and we hope this activity would be able to improve our students' quality and competency," she said.
Similarly, Executive Director of Airlangga University Global Engagement Prof. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsi said that research collaboration with the foreign university will help to achieve the mission of Airlangga to be a world-class university.(*)
