Jakarta, (Antara) - The standards of Islam-based education adopted by Islamic-integrated schools not only reinforce learning materials in science and technology but also educate students on cultural and moral values.
"The quality standards of Islam-based education contain the values of Islam that are derived from the Qur'an and not from the western education theory that separates religious values and practices from education," Chairman of the Islamic-integrated School Network Sukro Muhab stated during a talk show on Islamic Education organized by Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia here on Friday.
He explained that education in Indonesia faces several problems, as the school system and curricula are oriented towards secularism, materialism, and liberalism.
"Those ideologies have also been part of the lifestyle of most people," Muhab said, adding that today's educational curriculum is unable to achieve the nation's education goals of generating religious, intelligent, creative, independent, and competitive human resources.
According to Muhab, the Islamic school network has prepared eleven quality standards of education that can serve as a reference for Islamic-integrated schools across the country, including the competencies of educators, provision of facilities and infrastructure, management, financing, curriculum, and competencies of graduates.
"In Islamic education, teachers always connect sciences or mathematics with religious education, so that students will not only become intelligent but also have a strong faith, worship god, and demonstrate good manners, as well as become creative," Muhab remarked.
Meanwhile, Rector of the HAMKA University Prof. Suyatno asserted that Islamic education is a system that is already integrated from the beginning, as Islam contains the concept of faith and piety in addition to strengthening science and technology.
He expressed concerns that the education system around the world is still oriented towards secularism that tends to separate religious education from general subjects that causes several problems in society.(*)
