Bandung, W Java, (Antara) - Floods hitting Garut District, West Java Province, on Tuesday evening killed 15, and 18 people are reported missing.

"The death toll has reached 15 people," spokesman of the Bandung Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) Joshua said here on Wednesday.

The flood-affected sub-districts included Bayongbong, Garut City, Banyuresmi, Tarogong Kaler, Tarogong Kidul, Karang Pawitan, and Samarang.

A local Basarnas team continues to look for missing victims insides houses and along rivers.

The flooding was triggered by continuing heavy rains that caused the Cimanuk River to overflow on Tuesday.

Garut Public Hospital, Tarogong Kidul police office, main roads and residential areas were submerged by floodwaters.(*)
