Surabaya (Antara Jatim) - The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has set itself the target of completing the construction of state budget-funded natural gas network in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya by the end of this year.
"All households in Surabaya will be able to cook using natural gas by December 2016 at the latest," the ministry's director general of oil and gas, I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmadja Puja, said while inspecting the project here on Wednesday.
In total, the gas networks will be supplying gas to 24 thousand households in the city, informed Wiratmaja who was accompanied by director of state gas firm (PGN), Dilo Seno Widagdo, during the inspection visit.
PGN will also complete the installation of 180 thousand of the targeted 189 thousand gas connections nationwide this year, he added.
"We have set ourselves the target of installing 200 thousand gas connections by 2017, supplying gas to all households in Indonesia," he stated.
Besides Surabaya, PGN is also installing gas connections to households in Tarakan, Balikpapan, Batam, Cilegon and Prabumulih, he mentioned.
"In Prabumulih, all four thousand households will have a gas connection this year," he affirmed.
He noted that the government plans to install 1.5 million household gas connections in the next five years. (*)
